PRESS: Yandex rumored considering launch of MVNO on Tele2

MOSCOW, Jan 9 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company Yandex is considering launching its own mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) on the network of mobile operator T2 RTK Holding, known under brand Tele2, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday citing a market source.

Another source said that the Tele2 network would be basic and subscribers would be able to change operators, the daily reported.

Tariffs of the new operator would be integrated with subscription Yandex.Plus, and clients would get unlimited access to music and films on the company’s services, one of the sources said.

A Yandex spokesperson said the company has no MVNO plans.

A source close to Yandex said the company is holding negotiations with connection operators on different projects, adding that there are no precise agreements on MVNOs. A Tele2 spokesperson declined to comment.

According to researcher TMT Consulting, a client base of virtual operators in the country could have risen 40% to 10 million in 2019.
